The "other operators" category was initially created to keep track of motorway service areas who's operator only owns one site. As some have expanded or been taken over, this now leaves us with only:

• Folkestone (ChannelPorts)
• Heart of Scotland (Harthill) (BP Express)
• Old Inns (Shell)
• Rivington (EG On The Move)

...all bar one of which are actually part of a fuel group who own many service areas on A-roads and parts of other motorway service areas.

As a result, this category is instead used for the less practical purpose of showing any documented service area which has been tagged with an operator that is not recognised by the system. This could mean that they are operated by a smaller group, or that part of it is genuinely independently operated, but excluded are cases where there is an independent facility but it wasn't listed as one of the two operators that can be recorded.
