Trivia and History
This site was built as a garage on the old Sausthorpe Road in the 1960s, along with two semi-detached houses.
In the early 2000s, the it redeveloped into the filling station we see today with canopy, pumps and sales building all being added.
These sold Rix fuels. In the early 2010s, the MID sign and canopy were altered to mainly carry SPAR branding, with just a small Rix logo.
The on-site SPAR store gained a Stacked sandwich bar in late 2018. Planning permission was secured for two InstaVolt electric vehicle charging points to be built in 2018, but this has since lapsed. A Revolution Laundry machine was added to the forecourt in 2022, but later removed.
Gill Marsh Forecourts switched fuel provider to TotalEnergies in May 2022, a brand now owned by Harvest Energy. They now intend to redevelop the site, demolishing the existing sales building and house to the left of the forecourt and expand the offering here.
