Trivia and History
A small car repairs garage situated on the original alignment of the A361, known locally as Woodside Garage, dates back to at least the 1940s. The garage gained fuel facilities in around the 1960s.
Following the opening of the upgraded A361 North Devon Link Road in 1988, traffic was no longer directly passing the site. The Chapple family, who owned the site at the time, planned to significantly expand their offering. They gained planning permission to add a restaurant in 1987 and later gained permission for a forecourt redevelopment in 1989, however neither of these happened and the restaurant was never built.
The forecourt was branded Total until 2012 when, following Total's nationwide shutdown, the site rebranded to Gulf. In summer 2019, the site was sold to new owners who rebranded it to Murco.
