Trivia and Design

The two sides of the service area are positioned about a mile apart. Originally the service area was built in a pair just like any other, but a little too close to M5 J8. The original set-up has been removed completely, as explained in its history.
The northbound site is also home to the Midlands Air Ambulance base which was built in 1998.
Strensham is one of Roadchef's most profitable service areas, and is a popular place to trial new ideas. McDonald's, Hot Food Co, Soho Coffee, Boots and LEON all trialled their first Roadchef branch here. A New York Bakery 'airstream' external kiosk opened on the southbound side on 18 June 2021, as part of Roadchef's investment in outdoor dining areas. Following a successful trial over the summer, Roadchef later introduced the New York Bakery option to their Fresh Food Café units.
The motorway network's first dedicated sensory room opened at Strensham in October 2022.
The southbound service area remains one of the only motorway service areas in the country without any electric vehicle charging facilities. This was rectified in 2023 when GRIDSERVE installed two chargers in the car park, but these are yet to go live. Roadchef are negotiating to improve the power connection on both sides so new chargers can be provided, with 12 GRIDSERVE charging points expected to be added to the northbound car park in early 2024.
A second LEON store, for northbound traffic, opened on 22 November 2022. The refurbished northbound SPAR store, launched on 1 June 2023, is SPAR's first use of their 'Joy of Living Locally' format.
