Work on the service area started in March 2000, with the services fully opening on 22 January 2001. It was referred to in planning as 'Radwell services'.

The motorway network’s first Regus Express Workpod opened here on 23 May 2014, but it has since been removed. A firm of solicitors now lease the upper level of the building.

The hotel opened as a Sleep Inn, and includes a drop-off area at the front as if it's expecting a higher class of customer than the usual motorway motel. The petrol station was originally operated by Texaco and Somerfield.

Deep Blue Fish and Chips opened a restaurant here on 16 November 2021, offering a breakfast menu in the morning and their standard fish and chip affair in the afternoons and evenings in a similar concept to Welcome Break's The Good Breakfast and Harry Ramsden's set-up.
