Trivia and History

Opened by Granada 1990
Re-branded Moto 2001

When services on the M42 were first being investigated (with Austrey Meadows being the preferred location), building any services at this junction was ruled out because of the traffic impact. It was later developed privately by Granada in partnership with Esso. Esso operated the forecourt separately and later sold it to Euro Garages.

There are 257 car parking spaces together with 18 spaces for coaches and 34 HGV spaces within the site boundary.

The services's access road formed part of a through route, linking a country lane (Green Lane) to the dual carriageway to the M42 (also called Green Lane). It is not a public route and has since been closed off.

Labrokes motorway services.
The outdoor unit, built for Rock Island, now Ladbrokes.

Between 1995 and 1998 there was a Rock Island Diner here in a separate building, which later became Little Chef. There was a Ladbrokes attached to it which now occupies the whole building, meaning the glossy chrome and red plastic fittings and 1950s posters and music are no longer to be found.

Under the original plans for the HS2 rail link, the service station would have been demolished. A revised plan has the tracks running in a tunnel, allowing the services to remain.
