The opening of the Queensferry Crossing in 2017 brought about major changes to the road network in this area. One of the beneficiaries was Forthview services, which became the main service area for the A90 northbound.

Traffic which doesn't want to visit this service area is directed to "alternative services", further down the A904, at Ferrymuir.

Trivia and History

The McDonald's restaurant, positioned at the site entrance on Builyeon Road.

Forthview was one of many service areas accessed from Echline Junction, positioned above the A90, immediately south of the Forth Road Bridge. This one was positioned on the west side of the junction.

Planning permission was granted in 1992. It had a Texaco forecourt, which was joined by a McDonald's Drive Thru, Travel Inn and The Queens Crossing branch of Brewers Fayre. The new hotel and restaurant offered significant competition for the Forth Bridges Motel over the road. Road signs offered directions to both sites, from the A90 in both directions.

The forecourt was acquired by BP in 2003, who redeveloped and rebranded the forecourt to one of their BP Connect sites, adding a Wild Bean Café to the site. The forecourt also gained a M&S Simply Food store in 2007.

The hotel has also rebranded a couple of times, becoming Premier Travel Inn before Premier Inn in 2007. The hotel also gained an extension in 2018.

BP added one of their BP Pulse chargers to the forecourt in early 2023, as well as installing two Type 2 connectors at the hotel. The hotel Type 2 connectors were replaced with a new GeniePoint charger in March 2024.

Even though the M90 southbound has road signs referring to "Services", this is merely giving directions and isn't the same as it qualifying as a motorway service area. Transport Scotland have always had a much more relaxed attitude to these issues, as the regulations were written for England.
