Trivia and History
Plans for a service station here date back to 1989. Developments were put forward under the names W D Fisher, Twyford Developments and Margram, all on a site named Twyford Farm. Margram received planning permission for what they called Twyford service station in 1998, and set about selling it to BP and Esso. This development formed one of several which made up Margram's £105m expansion in 2002.
There were separate plans for a restaurant next door. One plan, dated 1996, included a drive thru and a Travelodge. Another firm thought to be interested was Wolverhampton & Dudley (now Marston's). Eventually the Brewers Fayre and Travel Inn opened in around 2002.
The restaurant then became Table Table and is now Beefeater. The petrol station was sold to Somerfield and became known locally as the Evesham Co-op. The forecourt itself became branded Texaco.
At the far southern end of the bypass, there have been separate plans for a large truckstop to be developed. Competition has also come from the expanded The Valley shopping park, which expanded in 2020.
New KFC and Costa drive thru units were built on land next to the petrol station, and opened in autumn 2019. Two InstaVolt electric vehicle charging points were added to the Costa car park in September 2021, later being expanded to four chargers in September 2024.
A new Asda Express store launched in the filling station on 24 January 2024, with the store officially opened by The Services King.
