The Woolley Edge is actually a viewpoint in nearby Woolley.

Due to the steep hills in the area, the north-facing slip roads are very long.

A railway tunnel and coal seams run beneath the services, which made designing it difficult.

Granada service area signed a 25 year lease in 2000. The rent is approximately £2.5m per year. In August 2014, Orchard Street paid £35.1m for the land.
