Trivia and History

Handcross services was built as an AJ's restaurant and a Mobil petrol station, next to the original A23 London Road in 1987. In 1993 that road was shifted west, which meant the old service area was still accessible - albeit with a long sliproad.
In 1997 the AJ's became the Handcross South branch of Little Chef, which closed in 2005. It became Cherries Cafe, now Crama Romaneasca.
There was a Costcutter in the petrol station. MFG are planning to build a Starbucks Drive Thru at the back of the shop.
