Trivia and History
The service area here opened as a filling station and McDonald's Drive Thru restaurant with space left to the east of the site for future development.
Castle Building Ltd. proposed to build a 38-bed hotel on that undeveloped land to the east in 2006, labelled as 'Phase 2' of the service area, however these plans were refused.
The filling station was formerly branded Texaco. In around 2012, the site was rebranded to Gulf.
A pub, hotel and KFC Drive Thru were proposed to open directly opposite on the south-east corner of the roundabout in 2011, but this didn't happen. Instead, a very similar development opened three miles to the west.
