Services opened 2017

When the large Lincs Gateway housing estate and business park was built in 2017, space was left for a service station by the A16 roundabout. The land was divided into six parcels, with the petrol station, a large Applegreen, opening that year in the north-east corner. A Marston's pub and hotel later joined the site in the south-east corner, accessed from the same cul-de-sac.

The Adil Group were to build a pair of drive-thru restaurants. These opened on 19 August 2022 as a KFC and a Taco Bell, the latter being part of a new push from Taco Bell to open more roadside sites.

Applegreen purchased a significant stake of Welcome Break in November 2018 which saw this site become one of the 'trade-offs'. Internally, it became part of the Welcome Break estate in summer 2021, though Applegreen branding continues to be used for the time being.

Welcome Break refer to the site as Spalding services, despite nearby Springfields also claiming that title.
