Trivia and History
The site was built in 1994 by Margram. It is positioned on the A284, leaving space for the Arundel Bypass to be built. This was being actively planned at the time, before being cancelled in 1996; it's currently back at the proposal stage. If the bypass is built, the facility will see a drop in passing trade as traffic from the A27 would be required to leave at the junction to access the services.
The Comfort Inn was built in around 1996, and took their branding as a condition of Friendly Hotels partnering with Choice Hotels.
The filling station was formerly operated by Snax 24 and included a Mace store. In 2015, following the merger of Snax 24 with Rontec, the site gained a SPAR store with a Subway offering. Rontec later rebranded the store to their own brand Shop'N Drive in early 2021.
Two InstaVolt electric vehicle charging points were added to the McDonald's car park in May 2022.
A Costa Drive Thru pod opened behind the existing forecourt in June 2023. With no walk-in kiosk, the facility isn't accessible to pedestrians or HGV drivers. Rontec also replaced their Subway concession with a Greggs store in early 2023.
The site was listed as a truckstop in the Highways Agency's 2006 guide, but it was removed by 2008.
