An odd pairing at the quieter end of the M1. Woolley Edge northbound is a little short of space, while Woolley Edge southbound comes with a large field to walk around.

First 2 hours free for all vehicles, after which cars must pay £15 and HGVs, caravans and motorhomes £28. HGVs can pay £31 to include a £10 food voucher.

HGVs can also pay by using SNAP. The location code is 13424 (northbound) and 13422 (southbound).

The Woolley Edge is actually a viewpoint in nearby Woolley. Due to the steep hills in the area, the north-facing slip roads are both very long.
A railway tunnel and coal seams run beneath the services, which made designing it difficult. There is a railway ventilation shaft next to the southbound filling station.
Granada signed a 25 year lease on the land in 2000. The rent is approximately £2.5m per year. In August 2014, Orchard Street paid £35.1m for the land.
Electric vehicle charging hubs were added to both sides in late 2022. Moto are now intending to add drive thru Greggs and KFC units to the service area.
In early 2024, Transport Focus calculated a 60% satisfaction score among lorry drivers for the northbound service area. This made it the worst-rated of the 72 HGV facilities they visited.
