Trivia and History

Little Chef seating.
Inside the Little Chef.

The services are exactly 15 miles from the unbuilt Meon Valley services on the M27. Given that this section of A27 was planned to be part of the M27 right up until the last minute, it is quite likely that this was supposed to become a full motorway service area.

In 1994 a Little Chef and Travelodge were built next to an existing Total forecourt, next to the eastbound carriageway. The Little Chef closed on 31 July 2012. It was soon sold to become a Starbucks.

There had been several plans for a westbound service area to accompany it but finally, in early 2014, a large, westbound BP forecourt was built. In early 2018, the eastbound filling station gained Budgens in replacement of Shell’s own branded Select.
