Trivia and History
Following the opening of the Spalding Bypass in 1995, plans for a filling station and drive-thru restaurant on the north-east quadrant of the Springfields roundabout were soon being proposed. Permission was granted in 1998, with space left to the north and east of the site for future development.
The McDonald's Drive Thru restaurant opened on 23 December 1998, with the modular building taking a weekend to construct on-site.
During 1999, plans for a 160-seater family diner, hotel and fast food restaurant from Mansfield Brewery were also granted planning permission. A Shell filling station, operated by the Lincolnshire Co-operative Society, was later added to the site in 2001. This later re-branded Texaco in the mid-2000s, becoming Gulf in around 2012.
