Trivia and History
Handcross services was built as an AJ's restaurant and a Mobil petrol station, next to the original A23 London Road in 1987. In 1993 that road was shifted west, which meant the old service area was still accessible - albeit with a long sliproad.
In 1997 the AJ's became the Handcross South branch of Little Chef, which closed in 2005. It became Cherries Cafe, now Crama Romaneasca.
The filling station shop was formerly branded Costcutter. In March 2019, planning permission was granted to MFG to build a Starbucks Drive Thru on the existing HGV parking area to the rear of the shop. As part of the works, the HGV parking area and electric vehicle charging point would be relocated as well as removal of the existing car wash and jet wash.
