Trivia and History
Beacon and West Cave were both built in the 1980s, and at the time they were closely related. Both sites offered a forecourt and a Happy Eater restaurant; on this side the forecourt was branded Shell from opening.
Both of these restaurants became Little Chefs in 1994; this one was named the 'South Cave East' branch. This side had been built on a much larger plot of land, with dedicated lorry parking, a field behind the hotel and space for an additional restaurant.
The parking earned it a place in the Highways Agency's 2006 truckstop guide, where it was shown as having 15 free parking spaces but no restaurant.
The additional restaurant space was never used, and the Little Chef closed in September 2012. The building has been left empty since, but EG Group have secured planning permission to demolish this building and build a new Starbucks Drive Thru.
The site is now known as 'Beacon', though some call it Everthorpe. Travelodge call it South Cave, not to be confused with another service area.
