Trivia and History
The service area here opened as a filling station and McDonald's Drive Thru restaurant with space left to the east of the site for future development.
Plans for further development came in 2006 when Castle Building Ltd. proposed to build a 38-bed hotel on the undeveloped land to the east labelled as 'Phase 2' of the service area, however these plans were refused.
The filling station was formerly branded Texaco. In around 2012, the site was rebranded to Gulf.
Rival facilities to be built directly opposite the existing service area on the south-east corner of the roundabout were proposed in 2011, which would've seen a pub, hotel and KFC Drive Thru built, but this didn't happen. Instead, a very similar development opened three miles to the west.
