Trivia and History

The Carlisle Truck Inn claimed to be the UK's first truckstop. Over the following 15 years, the owners said they had been advising many of the UK's newer truckstops. It had 100 beds, a café, cabaret, a shop, a games room, a repair yard and diesel sales.

The site was sold to BP Truckstops in the early 1990s, and they became Nightowl in 2002. Nightowl scaled back massively, leaving just Carlisle and Rugby, which are now with the Stobart Group.
