Trivia and History

Two-storey Premier Inn hotel building.
The Premier Inn hotel, situated at the back of the site.

A separate lay-by for HGVs is provided for vehicles heading south along the A876, signposted from the exit immediately before Bowtrees. This was built with the junction improvement in 2008. Prior to this, there was a second, older, petrol station, opposite the existing one - this was demolished to make way for the new flyover.

The service area was developed by Action 2000 Ltd in 1990 with the filling station opening in around 1992. Fuel was originally provided by Q8, which changed to BP in around 2008. The Brewers Fayre pub-restaurant was added in 1994 with the hotel (a Travel Inn at time of opening) opening last in 1999.

The filling station used to feature a SPAR branded store however this was changed to Londis in 2020. MFG refurbished the store in March 2022 with the store receiving updated Londis branding along with a number of new grab and go options.

MFG currently hold planning permission to install a MFG EV Power electric vehicle charging hub here, which is expected to include six electric vehicle charging bays.
