Trivia and History
The service area here started out life as a filling station, built in the 1970s by BP. By the late 1980s, BP had started planning to add a restaurant here however their first attempt in 1989 was refused planning permission. They eventually gained permission in 1992, and this was extended in 1996, before eventually being scrapped.
Instead, in 1998, plans for a McDonald's Drive Thru were approved which opened before the end of the millennium.
BP went on to upgrade the site in the early 2000s to become one of their BP Connect sites, with the site gaining a Wild Bean Café in the process. A M&S Simply Food store was added in 2008.
