Trivia and History
A service area was first planned for this site in 1990 with a filling station, restaurant, hotel and car showroom all proposed alongside industrial development, spread across 5.86 hectares of land. This plan was renewed in 1993, 1996, 1999 and 2002 before eventually being scrapped.
Throughout the 1990s, BP were granted planning permission for several variations of plans for a filling station here with one in 1996 including a restaurant. BP finally settled on building a filling station and McDonald's Drive Thru restaurant, which opened in 2001 as a BP Connect site. The filling station went on to gain a M&S Simply Food store and Wild Bean Café offering in 2007.
From 2006 to 2009, there were four different plans to develop the land to the east of the service station for industrial use, as originally proposed. Another plan submitted for the erection of four units was refused in January 2021 on the basis that it would cause issues with the neighbouring residential properties.
Four BP Pulse electric vehicle charging bays were added to the forecourt in late 2023.
