Trivia and History

The services are named after the Tickled Trout Hotel next to the site. The adjacent motorway junction is often referred to as the Tickled Trout as a result.
The first building here was built in the 1930s on Preston New Road, called the Riverside Cafe. The eastbound A59 access road is the original road line.
In 1958 the UK's first motorway junction was built next to Tickled Trout, causing the road to be diverted and a lot more traffic to be attracted to the area, despite never having been signed from the M6. It has since been extended several times.
The site was extensively rebuilt in 2010, at the same time as the nearby junction improvements were carried out.
In late 2015, the filling station was re-branded and a Subway outlet replaced the Greenhaights Coffee Shop. The upstairs area is used by The Cake Decorating Co.
