Trivia and History
The new alignment for the A483 which was built in the 1980s included provision for a service area at Croesfoel Interchange. This opened in 1987 with an Esso filling station and the Wrexham branch of Little ChefHistory. This was then joined by a Little Chef Lodge a year later, which went on to become a Travelodge during the 1990s.
Following Granada's takeover of Little Chef in the mid-1990s, the site then gained a Burger King restaurant in an extension to the existing restaurant building. This closed in around 2007.
The Little Chef restaurant continued to trade until July 2012, when it was deemed to be underperforming by R Capital and closed. The building was acquired by Euro Garages in 2013 who added a Starbucks store in the former Little Chef space and a Subway franchise in the former Burger King space.
The forecourt gained a Snack & Shop store before Esso sold the site to Euro Garages in late 2012. Euro Garages rebranded the store to SPAR following the acquisition. The MID sign for the forecourt now also promotes the Subway store which can confuse customers by allowing them to assume the Subway is situated inside the forecourt shop.
The SPAR store rebranded to the ASDA On the Move on 25 April 2023, later becoming part of the Asda Express estate on 30 November 2023.
