Trivia and History
The facilities here date back to at least the 1980s, when it was a restaurant called Travellers Kitchen. The forecourt appears to have been used to sell cars.
In 1997 there was a plan to add a "Travel Lodge", but this may not necessarily be related to the brand of the same name.
The restaurant name was shortened to 'T.K. Diner', while the forecourt became branded 'Day Today'. The petrol station was taken over by Applegreen in October 2008, who decided to use their budget brand, 'Discount Fuels'.
The forecourt was fully refurbished in 2016, and switched over to the main Applegreen branding. At the same time Applegreen acquired the diner building, painted it white and turned it into a Subway and The Bakewell. The Bakewell was removed from the main building, leaving just the Subway, with the building now painted green.
Applegreen purchased Welcome Break in 2018, and they announced that this new site would be a good candidate to transfer to the new branding. It is now treated as a Welcome Break site, albeit still fully branded as Applegreen.
