The international kebab brand German Doner Kebab opened its first motorway store at Baldock services in December 2023. This attracted considerable interest, as its long opening hours means it's the first restaurant in the UK to offer a doner breakfast menu.
Unlike a traditional kebab shop, the GDK units have a number of touchscreen ordering points, and a wide menu including burgers and Lavazza coffee.
Further units opened at Peterborough and Cambridge in February and March 2025 respectively. Both these units incorporate their own seating area, something which is only usually seen at their high street stores.
