Trivia and History
A restaurant and filling station were first proposed for Little Clovers Farm, by the roundabout at Faygate in 1987, but planning permission was refused by the local authority.
The topic re-emerged in 2013. A new developer initially proposed building a filling station with two entrances and a link road between them on a long, thin plot of land with limited space for cars to turn around. This was refused planning permission for as it was deemed to have "a significant adverse urbanising impact".
An appeal and a consolidation of the road layout into a more typical layout on a smaller plot of land led to it becoming a successful development, which was taken forward by BP. It opened in 2023.
In keeping with other sites along this dual carriageway corridor including a very similar, new BP forecourt at Ashington, some "Services" labels were added to the existing road signs, but full signage has not been provided. As the road is classed as a local route, West Sussex County Council are free to decide how much signage they deem necessary.
