While EG On The Move is a new operation, not to be confused with the legally distinct EG Group. To the casual observer, the two have a similar name, colours, and building style, with EG On The Move even having bought its first 34 sites from its namesake, as well as a number of proposals. But EG Group has left the British market, and EG On The Move is expected to grow fast.
EG On The Move sites are generally focused on new-build sites that have a number of individual drive thru buildings, next to a forecourt with a large building and a number of food options inside. Unusually, fuel is sold under their own brand name, after negotiating with suppliers, putting them in a similar position to the Welcome Break brand.
They also have an emphasis on electric vehicle charging, with their brand EV On The Move replacing EG Group's EV Point.
Company History
The similarities between the two companies stem from EG On The Move being founded by Zuber Issa, who was also a co-founder of EG Group. He told the media that his interest in British roadside hospitality was genuine and something he wanted to keep going after EG Group left the UK.
With EG Group broken up, the new EG On The Move purchased their final 34 sites. They also brought forward planning applications which had fallen by the wayside as EG Group started to hit its peak. The new company is also seeking to purchase Applegreen's remaining UK forecourts, and will refurbish them to bring in a renewed focus on foodservice. They have admitted that this refurbishment will mean an end to Applegreen's policy of charging low fuel prices.
Service Areas
EG On The Move's flagship sites are their "new to industry" (NTI) locations, which are new-build sites close to major road junctions. These do not normally form part of an official service area, instead relying on the attractiveness of their brand partners to pull customers in. At some locations, like Stonehaven, a little signage is required by the authorities.
Most shops are branded SPAR, but a trial with Co-op is in place. Other partners include Greggs, Subway and Starbucks.
