Trivia and History
While this family-owned facility is primarily aimed at lorry drivers (and indeed it was known as 'Chippenham Truckstop' until 2010), it has many car parking spaces too cars too. Six IONITY electric vehicle charging points were added in August 2021, making this more of a destination for car drivers.
The shop aims to act as a local store for its neighbours. Nisa Local branding was added in summer 2021. The site was also home to Mr B's Barbershop from November 2014 in a portable building for a few years after he moved his shop from nearby Leigh Delamere services. This has since become a set of offices for haulage firm AW Jenkinson.
Prior to being called Chippenham Truckstop, the place was called 'Silvey's Hideaway Truckstop', later shortened to just Hideaway Truckstop.
A new ladies toilet and shower block, accessible toilet and overnight toilet facilities were added to the site in October 2022. A Revolution Laundry machine was also later added in December 2022.
Expansion Plans
The owners of Chippenham Pit Stop secured planning permission in April 2024 to significantly expand the parking area here, in what is set to be a £2 million investment by the business, supported by National Highways.
To achieve this, a plot of wild meadow running alongside the B4122 has been acquired and will be redeveloped to include 65 brand new HGV parking spaces along with 15 new dedicated van parking bays and 45 new car parking bays also being added.
IONITY are also set to add an additional 12 electric vehicle chargers here, utilising parking bays next to the existing chargers.
Works are set to commence in October 2024, with the new parking areas anticipated to be in operation from early 2025.
