Trivia and History

The Gulf filling station

The Ballinluig Inn was originally a pub. Ballinluig Services opened a petrol station and restaurant behind it on 1 March 1970. This continues to trade as a family business today.

The restaurant became the Ballinluig Motorgrill in 1984, whilst The Ballinluig Inn became The Red Brolly Inn and is now the Ballinluig Hotel. It rebranded to Ballinluig Rooms & Suites in late 2021.

The forecourt received a new shop building alongside the existing pumps in 1996 before rebranding from BP to Gulf in February 2019. The rebrand was marked with an official launch day on 20 April 2019.

The Motorgrill was modernised and refurbished in February 2023, reopening on 1 March, its 53rd anniversary.
