I'm a 22-year-old public transport and motorway services enthusiast from Oldham, Greater Manchester.

My interest in motorway services began at an early age, fascinated by the variety of brands available at different ones and how each MSA operator was different to each other. Most of my photos are taken on trips travelling elsewhere- mainly for football away days and Wembley trips to watch Manchester City, hence why my percentage visited is considerably lower than most contributors to this site.

I have created a Motorway services enthusiasts group on Facebook to connect and communicate with like-minded people- feel free to check it out: https://www.facebook.com/groups/1507995443125176

Where have I been?

Wconnolly648 has visited 26 UK services (22.3%). Here they are on a map:

Please note, I have visited both Mile End, and Oxford services but taken no photos

Best and worst

The BBC News has the best and worst services in the country

  • The best motorway services that I have visited is Norton Canes as it offered a wide selection of brands and offers good value for money. From excellent value meals at McDonalds to freshly cooked hot meals and snacks at Fresh Food Cafe (best breakfast on the motorway).
  • I have not been to a motorway service station that I do not like however on the A roads, I found Bangor services to be old fashioned and a bit neglected. It was obvious that Burger King had tried to look after their small part of the building with their corporate layout, but the rest of the services looked neglected. However, I have not seen the new Euro Garages petrol station so my opinion of these services might change in the future.

Money saving tips at motorway services

We all know that Motorway Services charge more, but as the Daily Mail reports in 2018, they can charge up to 70% more. But don't worry, there are still some ways that we can save money while at Motorway Services.

  • Moto and Roadchef both have daily deals apps including freebies and 20% off vouchers. Both are available to download from the App Store or Google Play.
  • Welcome Break offer emergency services workers a 20% discount on a range of different brands at their motorway services through the Blue Light Card scheme. Use this link here to see if you are eligable
  • As a thank you to the hard work of the NHS throughout the Coronavirus Pandemic, many stores (including those at motorway services) have increased their NHS discount or have extended the current staff discount to include the NHS.
  • Remember to check websites and apps for exclusive offers at certain shops and cafes includeing Greggs, Costa, Starbucks and WHSmith. (Voucher Codes, Voucher Cloud, Wuntu and O2 Priority etc)
  • Also, some brands at motorway services including Costa, Starbucks, McDonalds, and Greggs have a loyalty scheme which enables free food and drink.
