Now Fully Open

Now Fully Open is the title given to the badly-organised leftovers that didn't make it into Motorway Services Online. There's some opinion, a bit of history and quite a few photo galleries. It's not a place we promote, so you're kind-of lucky to have found it.

The truth is when you own a website, you have some space to put whatever you want on there. Now Fully Open takes the opportunity to put some of that space to use by sharing content that would otherwise go unaired. It's a more polite title than "dumping ground".

Since putting these pages online, we've all discovered Facebook, which makes displaying photos much easier. And Google Street View, which pretty much makes photographs redundant. But we are sticking to our guns on this one.

Old Photos

Now the main part of this depository: a collection of old photos and clip stills I wanted to share with you. Originally it just covered roads under construction in Hampshire, but there are some other major routes in there too now.

A18(M)

This motorway became the predator to the M180, and there's a tiny bit of it which remains abandoned and accessible to motorway-geeks who want to salvage what's left.

Hindhead Tunnel

A close-up look of one of the most impressive things to be built in the UK in recent times, as well as the traffic bottleneck it's trying to alleviate. Be aware if you have come from 1998 - there are 68 thumbnails on this page.

The Humber Bridge

The Humber Bridge is currently the fifth largest single-span suspension bridge in the world, and the largest that I can easily get to.

M27 Widening Works

Throughout 2008 climbing lanes were added to the M27 between J11 and J12, and the road was widened to four lanes between J3 and J4 - see it all in pictures here.

M53 and the M531

When the M53 couldn't be given its own route, it had a bit of a tantrum and stole the M531's, giving us one motorway with two very distinct halves.

Tipner Interchange

A half-built junction on the M275 which is full of surprises and, 40 years late, is now going to be completed.

More Roads Photos

For years I used to keep a poorly-organised gallery of some of the major roads that I've used. I've got rid of it now, and much better photos can be found elsewhere.

I contribute to the SABRE Wiki, and many of my photos can now be found on there.
