Trivia and History
Road signs were added to highlight the entrance to 'Stainmore Services' in 2022. Its remote location means, were it to be an official service area, it would be the only one to have its entrance marked by snow posts, and the only place where traffic is encouraged to cross the dual carriageway to enter and exit it.
As this ancient section of trans-Pennine road is already a dual carriageway, it won't be impacted by the plan to dual the rest of the route. However, the legacy crossovers at Stainmore may become more contentious as traffic levels increase.
Stainmore Cafe hold planning permission to build four electric vehicle charging points in the car park.
