Trivia and History

This service area was built in the 1950s, before the M6 opened, but at the time the A49 joined here. The garage was called The Beaches. A telephone exchange is accessed behind it, and overlooks the petrol station.

The site previously included a car wash but this was removed in the early 2010s to add an additional HGV refuelling lane.

A Shell Recharge EV charger was added next to the sales building in 2020, but this was removed in early 2024 as construction is now underway to add four Shell Recharge EV charging bays at the back of the forecourt, situated under their own canopy.

The site is not connected to the Haydock branch of Little ChefHistory, which was positioned a mile to the west.
