Cafe Continental was Roadchef's first coffee brand. They used it at their larger and refurbished service areas until they adopted the Costa franchise, which Roadchef felt was a better fit with their own image.
It was introduced to support Foodfayre, and usually had coffee and ice cream vending machines. The 'continental' part of the name apparently referred to it selling croissants, baguettes and coffee.
One Roadchef document described Cafe Continental as being "waitress service".
